Captain McDaniel

Captain McDaniel began his career in public safety in 1995 with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office
where he served for 20 years as a Detention Officer and Deputy Sheriff. He worked as a supervisor and
command officer in various areas of that agency, but maintained detention as his primary area of
expertise. As Accreditation Manager, he successfully led that agency to becoming the first accredited
jail system in the state of North Carolina and he also oversaw the large scale implementation of the
computerized Offender Management System leading the Mecklenburg jails to become one of the first in
the state to track inmate movement through their system electronically. He served in leadership
positions in Detention Administration, the Direct Action Response Team, and the Sheriff’s Command
Center for disaster and mass casualty response.

Captain McDaniel then returned to his home county of Stanly as a Patrolman for the Stanfield Police
Department where he also served as a Field Training Officer, In-service Training Coordinator and Zoning
and Code Enforcement Officer. While in this capacity, he earned his certification as a Certified Zoning
Official. As part of Sheriff Crisco’s team, Captain McDaniel joined the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office
returning to his true calling and bringing his wealth of experience to our agency as the Detention

Captain McDaniel also teaches Basic Law Enforcement Training classes at Stanly Community College and
holds Advanced Law Enforcement and Advanced Detention Officer certifications through North Carolina
Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards and North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training
Standards Commissions respectively. An alumnus of Stanly Community College, he received his
undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Pfeiffer University and is currently pursuing his Master of
Science in Criminal Justice from East Carolina University.
