Captain Caleb Stewart
Civil Division Commander
Captain Stewart began his law enforcement career in late 2004. While still in the BLET program at Stanly Community College, he was hired as a full time sworn bailiff with the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office. After a few months stationed in the Stanly County Courthouse as a sworn Court Deputy, Capt. Stewart was offered a position in the patrol division as a road Deputy. During his time on the road, he began studying civil law and familiarizing himself with the responsibilities of the Sheriff’s involvement in the civil process. While in the patrol division, Capt. Stewart also began serving on the Sheriff’s Response Team and became a member of the Sheriff’s Honor Guard, both of which he still serves on to this day.
In 2006, he was offered a position as a Corporal in the Civil Division where his responsibilities varied from carrying out the eviction process as well as other civil process and service of civil papers. Capt. Stewart was later promoted to Sergeant over the Civil Division. His responsibilities included service of Writs, Executions and prejudgment remedies issued by the court as well as the supervision of the Civil and SRO (School Resource Officer) Divisions. After 12 years of service to the citizens of Stanly County and the Sheriff’s Office, he was promoted to Captain over the Civil Division in early 2017, where he continues to execute processes issued by the courts while overseeing the operations of the Civil, SRO and Court House divisions.
