Patrol Division Captain
Captain Thomas entered the Law Enforcement profession in February 1979 and served under Sheriff Ralph McSwain; beginning in Communications, Patrol and in the Criminal Investigations Divisions until January of 1986. From January of 1986 until February of 2000, he served with the Albemarle Police Department in the Patrol and Investigations Divisions. He then served as the Director for Emergency Service Training at Stanly Community College until retiring in October 2007 from the State of North Carolina.
Following retirement, he has served with the Locust Police Department and the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office in Investigations, Patrol and Administrative Divisions and was appointed to the position of Captain of the Patrol Division in May of 2015 at the Sheriff’s Office.
During the 39 years, and counting, of service to Stanly County, it has been a pleasure to see the dedicated men and women serving begin to reach some of their career goals. I am proud of the current men and women I serve with at the Sheriff’s Office, but I take even greater pride in seeing those I was involved in their training now reaching the Command Level Positions of their various agencies within a 4 county radius of Stanly County.
Captain Thomas, and his wife Pam, live in the Western region of Stanly County, enjoy taking short trips to all parts of our state, and enjoying time with their children and grandchildren.
